The IBTA marks its ten-year anniversary with presentations and commemorative logo at Supercomputing ‘09

SUPERCOMPUTING 2009, Portland, Oregon – Nov. 18, 2009 – The InfiniBand® Trade Association (IBTA), a global organization dedicated to maintaining and furthering the InfiniBand™ specification, today announced that, according to the November 2009 TOP500 list of Supercomputers, InfiniBand is deployed in 182 of the TOP500 supercomputers, growing 28 percent since the November 2008 list. The IBTA also announced its ten-year anniversary and is celebrating this week at the Supercomputing ’09 trade show in Portland, Ore.

InfiniBand is the most prevalent interconnect in the TOP100, TOP200, and TOP300, connecting the most powerful clusters in the world and providing the highest system utilization. For the TOP100, InfiniBand is deployed in 63 clusters; this represents 15 percent growth from one year ago. The complete TOP500 list is available at www.top500.org.

“InfiniBand is dominating the TOP500 list by delivering a low-latency, high-bandwidth interconnect with low processing overhead,” said Brian Sparks, director of marketing communications at Mellanox Technologies, and co-chair of the IBTA marketing working group. “Capable of speeds up to 40Gb/s node to node and 120 Gb/s switch to switch, InfiniBand is delivering the performance in demand by users of both high-performance computing and enterprise systems as part of an efficient, cost-effective solution.”

InfiniBand Trade Association Marks Ten-Year Milestone
At Supercomputing ’09 this week, the IBTA is celebrating its ten-year anniversary. A special presentation in the IBTA booth (#139), as well as a commemorative logo, giveaways, signs, collateral and web updates, have all been developed to mark the occasion.

The IBTA was founded as “System I/O” in 1999 by Compaq, HP, and IBM. Today, the organization has over 40 members representing all of the key enterprise IT and HPC vendors in the InfiniBand community. The IBTA has overseen the growth of InfiniBand from initial speeds of 10Gb/s to current speeds of 40Gb/s, with speeds of 120Gb/s in production next year. The IBTA’s prestigious Integrator’s List – a listing of InfiniBand products that have successfully passed rigorous testing – has grown steadily over the years and now includes more than 297 products.
