The 54th edition of the TOP500 List, a ranking of the world’s fastest supercomputers, was released this November, showcasing InfiniBand’s ever-growing presence on the List. The IBTA is pleased to share that HDR 200Gb/s InfiniBand is now accelerating 31 percent of new InfiniBand-based systems on the List, including the fastest TOP500 supercomputer built in 2019. The List also revealed that InfiniBand has maintained its position in the world’s top three supercomputers and continues to power six of the top 10 systems. In total, InfiniBand accelerates 141 supercomputers on the List, a 12 percent increase since the release of the List in June 2019.
HDR 200Gb/s InfiniBand’s growth on the TOP500 List demonstrates the interconnect’s capacity for keeping pace with industry needs—adjusting to deliver the increased speed and scalability which enable the world’s most advanced systems to complete complex research and scientific development.
In addition to accelerating the top three supercomputers in the world, InfiniBand powers 46 of the top 100 supercomputers on the List. InfiniBand is leveraged by the world’s fastest High Performance Computing (HPC) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) supercomputer, the ‘Summit’ at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and the fastest industrial supercomputer at Total Oil and Gas, ranked number 11 on the List.
The November 2019 TOP500 List results confirm once again that InfiniBand plays an essential role in the success of the world’s leading supercomputers. Data centers that select Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) fabrics such as InfiniBand and RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCE) benefit from the low latency, increased bandwidth and high performance that these interconnects deliver.
