InfiniBand Dominates the TOP500
Last week, the IBTA announced that InfiniBand is the most used interconnect by the world’s fastest supercomputers, representing 44.4 percent of the TOP500 at 222 systems. InfiniBand also connects the top 17 most efficient systems and 50 percent of Petaflop-capable systems on the list. The TOP500 list is published twice per year and ranks the top supercomputers worldwide, providing valuable statistics for tracking trends in performance and architecture.

Members Announcements at ISC’14
Finisar Enables Next-Gen InfiniBand EDR-Based Supercomputers
At ISC’14, IBTA member Finisar showcased a live demonstration of its next generation 100 Gb/s Quadwire Active Optical Cable (AOC), which runs four parallel lanes of 25Gb/s to enable the next generation of InfiniBand EDR-based supercomputers. All of Finisar’s optical interconnects within their product portfolio displayed at ISC’14 support communication protocols including InfiniBand, Ethernet, SAS, PCIe and Fibre Channel.

Mellanox Expands InfiniBand Bandwidth to 100Gb/s
The world’s first 100Gb/s EDR InfiniBand switch was announced last week at ISC’14 by IBTA member company Mellanox Technologies. The 100Gb/s switch expands InfiniBand’s bandwidth and provides 7.2Tb/s of switching capacity while lowering latency and power consumption.

The IBTA will be hosting a webinar on RoCE during the last week of July in order to better educate IT decision makers and influencers on the benefits associated with utilizing RoCE in their data centers. The panel, moderated by IBTA MWG chair, Bill Lee, will include speakers from IBTA member companies Emulex, Mellanox and Microsoft. The panelists will educate attendees on data center trends, the RoCE ecosystem and will present specific case studies relevant to their companies. There will also be a Q&A session following the presentations for attendees to learn more from the panelists.

SC14 Technical Program Deadline
The final deadline for SC14 is fast approaching. Submissions for the Technical Program, including BoFs, Posters, ACM Student Research Competition, Doctoral Showcase, Emerging Technologies and most other Technical Program submissions is July 31. Notifications will be issued in September.
