InfiniBand Principles Every HPC Expert MUST Know

At the beginning of April, Rich Brueckner of insideHPC published a number of videos from the
HPC Advisory Council Swiss Conference 2014. These videos showcase the most important InfiniBand insights for experts in the High Performance Computing space.

IBM Announces OpenPOWER Foundation

Last week, IBTA member, IBM, announced new Power Systems servers that allow data centers to manage large quantities of data with faster speed. Through the OpenPOWER Foundation, IBM released detailed technical specifications for its POWER8 processor, which allows other companies to innovate on the processor and server platform.

OpenFabrics International Developer Workshop Presentations

In case you missed it, the presentations from the 10th annual OpenFabrics International Developer Workshop are now available to view on insideHPC. The workshop took place March 30 – April 2 and offered presentations on I/O for Exascale systems and Enterprise applications. Topic areas included distributed computing, storage and data access and data analysis applications, and a number of the videos highlighted RDMA capabilities.

Upcoming RDMA/InfiniBand Training Courses

Writing Application Programs For RDMA Using OFA Software, May 19-20, 2014

This training class is for application developers skilled in C programming and familiar with sockets but with little or no experience programming with OpenFabrics Software. This two-day course will provide attendees with classroom instructions and hands-on experience coding applications directly to the Verbs API using the OpenFabrics Enterprise Distribution and related software tools. This course will take place at the University of New Hampshire’s InterOperability Lab in Durham, New Hampshire.

InfiniBand Fabric Administration Using OFA Software, May 21-22, 2014

This two-day course in Durham, New Hampshire will provide detailed information and hands-on training for managing an InfiniBand Fabric. The training will be provided by Software Forge and will appeal to System Administrators, System Architects, Planners and Technologists. Attendees will receive detailed classroom instruction, hands-on experience with a wide variety of RDMA hardware and receive PDF documents covering all of the major OFED utilities.

Upcoming Industry Events – May & June 2014

Microsoft TechEd, May 12-15, 2014

This year’s Microsoft TechEd will take place in Houston, Texas and will provide attendees with the technical education, product evaluation and community resources to plan, architect, deploy, manage and secure a connected enterprise. The brightest and most skilled technology professionals from both the TechEd and MMS communities will meet at this event to increase their technical expertise through deep hands-on technical learning, sharing of best practices and interaction with Microsoft and a variety of industry experts and their peers.

ISC’14, June 22-26, 2014

The 2014 International Supercomputing Conference will take place in Leipzig, Germany and will feature over 300 expert speakers who will shar their perspectives on the latest developments in high performance computing. Featured this year are topics such as the future direction of HPC technologies, life science applications, big data, quantum computing and the real-world value
of HPC.
