Attending the OpenFabrics Alliance International Developer Workshop? Join IBTA on Tuesday, April 23rd at 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Monterey Marriott for great networking, light snacks and refreshments. Meet with Steering Committee members and chairs of some of the working groups.
The IBTA will also be hosting a meeting on Wednesday afternoon, following the conclusion of the OFA workshop. The meeting will bring together industry experts to present and discuss questions and feedback by users and deployers on the current and future state of InfiniBand technology. The meeting also gives members the opportunity to meet face to face and to get a preview of a possible full member meeting later this year. If you plan to attend the OpenFabrics Alliance International Developer Workshop and are interested in joining our Wednesday afternoon discussion, please contact Bill Lee at firstname.lastname@example.org.
IBTA Plugfest 23 to Preview New EDR Generation of Products
In the February edition of the IBTA Newsletter, the IBTA announced Plugfest 23, taking place April 1-12, 2013 at the University of New Hampshire’s Interoperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL). The bi-annual Plugfest event provides cable and device compliance testing with the current InfiniBand™ Architecture specifications as well as interoperability with other InfiniBand products.
The IBTA is also proud to announce that their Engineering Working Group (EWG) prepared a draft of the next InfiniBand™ Architecture Specification, 1.3.1 of Volume 2, which specifies the parameters for Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) InfiniBand products. The InfiniBand™ specification defines the interconnect technology for servers and storage that changes the way data centers are built, deployed and managed. Many vendors have submitted EDR cables for testing, and we expect Plugfest 23 to be the preview of the new EDR generation of products. IBTA added FDR Receiver testing to this year’s Plugfest, which depends on Agilent, Anritsu and Tektronix test equipment and will lead the way for EDR device testing moving forward. Additional test equipment has also been provided by Molex.
Vendor devices and cables successfully passing all required Integrator’s List Compliance Tests and Interoperability procedures at Plugfest 23 will be listed on the IBTA Integrators’ List, updated twice per year.
IDC Innovation Excellence Award
IDC is launching a new program to recognize noteworthy achievements made by users using High Performance Computing (HPC) technologies. The IDC Innovation Excellence Award is one way that the IDC is striving to recognize users and their vendors for major HPC-supported achievements in industry, government and academia. By launching the program and corresponding award, IDC hopes to build a large portfolio of quantified ROI success stories to strengthen the case for boosting investments in and funding for HPC.
- Showcase success stories involving HPC in science and industry
- Help other users better understand the benefits of adopting HPC and justify HPC investments
- Create a large database of ROI and innovation success stories to model the impact of investing in HPC
- Demonstrate the value of HPC to funding bodies and expand public support for increased HPC investments
- All submissions will receive a careful and complete review
- Submissions must contain a clear description of the dollar value (Q4) or innovation level (Q8) received in order to qualify and the HPC investments made for the project (Q10)
- Volunteers from the HPC User Forum Steering Committee will conduct an initial ranking of the submissions (then domain and vertical experts will be called on, as required, to assess the submissions)
- Winners will be notified in advance of any public announcement, which are made at ISC and Supercomputing
Deadline for submission: April 19th, 2013
If you are interested in submitting a company case study for the award, learn more on the HPC User Forum website, or contact IDC’s HPC team (email@example.com).
